Tonight Brent and I took the motorcycle
and went to dinner at our favorite local spot. On the way there I was overcome with my husband in his leather black jacket and the chrome of the bike… I sang the chorus to “My boyfriend’s back” as loud as I could as we drove along.
At the restaurant he looks at me over his menu and says “This is our last meal of 2008. Let’s make it a good one”
and so we...
Reflecting on 2008.
This year I learned how to navigate an entire city via mass transit. I learned that there is a lot to be missed if you don’t look up every now and then. I discovered an affinity for blanketing fog. I learned that true friendship is not measured in distance but in depth. I’ve learned to enjoy walking everywhere I need to go and that cars are overated. This year I discovered that you can...

I stopped by the post office because I had a package notice slip on the door. I assumed it was a gift I ordered for a friend’s birthday. When the man behind the counter handed me two packages, I was like… “What’s in this big box?!?!?”
When I got home and tore it open, I found the most exciting things waiting for me! Thank you so so so much for the surprise gift and...

Love Muffins
Me: Look at this article about underwear that prevent "muffin tops"
Brent: When did they stop calling them love handles?
Me: I don't know
Brent: Well, I don't like the name change. I'd much rather have love handles than muffin tops, it sounds more manly.
ahahahahahah
If I were a real life princess...
when I was a small girl, one of my favorite things to do was imagine.
I would make time for it in the same way I made time for lunch or writing to my penpal in Texas.
I would lay on my daybed, close my eyes and think up elaborate scenarios.
My favorite: If I were the princess of England, I would…..
answers included:
hire a team of back scratchers that would be available to rub my back...

Dear Alex,
hello my postcard love. I have great treasures for you! I found some amazing old postcards from different parts of the country in a vintage store in a little NC town AND a super cool graphic design postcard in the mountains. Once my lost luggage arrives, I’ll be tossing a few in the mail to you over the next few weeks.
eek eek. excited.

The week of treating everyday like Sunday
Brent: Let's not do anything tomorrow
Me: yes, not a single plan.
Brent: Except go for a motorcycle ride
Me: don't make it a plan... we'll go only if we feel like doing it right that second...
Brent: yes, only in that moment.
And so tomorrow is one big prospect. a wind in our hair ride down to the ocean, a stop at amoeba records for some new/old vinyl, or bloody marys on the back patio of bluejay. Maybe get my old cowboy boots resoled or just lay on the bed and read Pablo Neruda until it's too dark to see.
we'll do it all. or none of it. if we feel like it.

There is so much I want to show you!
My mother’s beautiful little cozy cottage in the mountains of Asheville, Brent’s Aunt Deedee’s to-die-for house full of the most eclectic and beautiful things. Antique furniture, charming plates, and a lifetime of books in every nook and cranny.
My eyes have reveled at the impossibly tall pinetrees of Brent’s boyhood adventures and the...
