Seattle: No Longer Sleepless My boss recently said it’s like I’m living a magical existence in my new city and I couldn’t agree more. Like Melissa I keep falling in love with my city at every new turn. Much like a new relationship, I feel like I will never be able to soak up everything the city has to offer with it’s food, sights, and smells. A few weeks ago my roomie Julie came into town and we celebrated by taking the pup up to the Skagit Valley Tulip festival with our dear friend Melinda. Afterwards we stopped in possibly the most charming, old-fashioned grocery store/gas station I’d ever seen in my life and topped the most perfect day off with dinner at a darling restaurant in La Conner (a town named after one my grandmother’s friends).
The next weekend my dear little “twin” (a friend who is pint-sized like me) Ali came to visit and I felt so happy to show her a perfect Seattle weekend, despite our infamous rain. We ate at a little out-of-the-way cafe that ended up being of the most delicious meals (including handmade ice cream sandwiches with caramel espresso dipping sauce) I’ve had in a long time and ignored the stormy weather to wear summery dresses and big hats at a friend’s Kentucky Derby bash, complete with authentic Mint Juleps. We ended the night with a classic stop at Dicks Drive-In for fries and a chocolate shake. The next day somehow topped that with one of my new favorite activities: the King County Water taxi. For only $3 a little shuttle comes and picks me up outside my door and takes me to a little boat on the shores of my neigborhood Alki. In just twelve minutes, a pleasant boat ride with gorgeous views takes me to the heart of downtown where museums, restaurants, and the famous and delightful Pike Place Market. How incredibly freeing it felt to enjoy all the city has to offer without the restrictions and cost of a vehicle! I know I will be taking the Water Taxi everytime I have a visitor and for baseball games, shopping days and picnics overlooking Puget Sound.
Lastly, the thing I love most about my city is JBW. We started dating almost three years ago and now I get to kiss his sweet face everyday if I want instead of dreaming about it. We take long walks with Gandalf (my puppy) along the beach and get to finally make plans for our future life. I’m having to pinch myself daily to make sure all of this is my dream come true.
