Everly is asleep across my belly right now. While I’ve spent our second week together learning to care for this tiny child, I’ve had the television on in the background. I can not escape the images of Haiti even when I turn it off. My heart is seized with so many conflicting emotions. The joy of a new life in my home and the devastating loss of thousands in a country not that far away.
This post is more for me than or anyone else. It’s just an effort to make sense of the clash of thoughts that have been flowing through me today. Despite my best efforts to make sense of it, I feel guilty for having so much when so many people are suffering.
